DJ Epic - Team Epic LLC

Are you from Saint Louis? if not, where (and why did you come to Saint Louis)?

Born and raised in St.Louis

Which High School did you attend, (if you attended high school in MO)? (If not from Saint Louis, you can opt out of this question)

I went to Parkway Central my Freshman year through Junior year, then transferred to McCluer High school

Which area is the best? Why? (County (North, South, West), City, St. Charles, Chesterfield, East Saint Louis, etc...)

I don’t know how to answer that question honestly.  I love St. Louis as a whole and all of those areas I have ties too and I love each of them for separate reasons. I love the west side of St. Louis because that’s what raised me in the 80s living in poverty but I loved it because I learned to love life when you have nothing.  I love North county because it taught me diversity. I love South County because its like the melting pot everything comes together there.  I love Chesterfield because it’s just a beautiful place, I can go on and on about the St. Louis area.

Tell me something about yourself that you would like to share.

Growing up on the Westside of St. Louis I always felt like the outcast. I grew up around drug dealers, and gang members however I had dreams of writing stories, making movies and spinning records.  I always considered it a great blessing that I wasn’t consumed by my environment. I didn’t have anyone around me encouraging me to chase dreams or goals actually. All of my peers were trying to be in the streets and hustle and make money.   And honestly, without having that encouragement I stopped reaching for my goals for a long time until I went to McCluer High School.  Even though I loved going to Parkway Central, I was in the desegregation program going there so they pretty much just treated the city kids like a charity case and the only thing they encouraged us to do was not mess up their school they didn’t really care how we did in class. I can only speak for myself with that experience.

However transferring to McCluer was the best thing that ever happened to me. It was there that I really saw true diversity, and I saw my peers actually being included in things in school and not just sports.  It was really my English teach there Mrs. Tarrant at the time that sparked my creative juices back. She was the first person in years that told me I had a gift and told me to follow it, and once she said that, I got into acting, and back into writing and back to dreaming again. My family made a move to Ferguson, MO and it was the best thing ever, I’ll always be thankful for that.

What is/are the name(s) of your business(es) and describe it/them (please provide a website and email address if possible). Why did you start it/them?

My company is Team Epic LLC which embodies a couple entities. There is Sound Off Film & Television. Which we work on web series, podcast and other film projects.  Currently I have a podcast called “Unscripted Lyrics” that’s on Itunes and Google Play.  We are also in the early production stages of a couple of web series.  There are also couple movie scripts we are developing. Under the umbrella we also have our Lady Epic brand which organizes parties that benefit various charities and that division is run by one of my best friends Julia Perkins. Of course we also promote nightlife events and concerts. We have had the pleasure of putting together some great shows in St. Louis including bringing the Grammy nominated group The Foreign Exchange here.  My good friend/brother Ken takes the lead on the day to day of the nightlife and promoting side.   I am in a great position to be able to work on my various passions with some very close friends.

I started Team Epic after years of trying to be a one man band in the entertainment field. I grew up with a passion for so many things and I tried to do as much as I could by myself, and fortunately in the past couple years I had friends that also believed in my dreams that wanted to help and I was able to start Team Epic because finally there was a team behind the movement.   Now we are able to focus on all aspects and its not just me trying to do a bunch of stuff. It definitely helps with organization and productivity.

What three words would describe your business(es)? (If you own more than one business please give three words to describe each business).
